Auckland, June 21. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Weekly Report.—Grain, seeds, horse feed, &c.: lne supply has been ample for requirements, and a steady demand has existed. We quote: Oats, Is lid to 2s Id per bushel; maize, 2s lid; wheat, 3s; bran, £3 15s to £4 per ton; oaten chaff, £2 10s to £2l os per ton; carrots, £ll2s 6d to £2los per ton. Horses: The number brought forward has been above the average, but purchasers have been forthcoming, and prices for medium draught advanced, and for other sorts were firm. inere was above an average muster for sale by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday. Ridding was brisk throughout the sale, and very few remained in original hands; still there was an unsatisfied demand for medium draught horses and useful plough mares. We quote : Hacks, at from £5 to £1010s; light harness and medium draught, from £slos to £l6 10s. Wooi, hides, skins, &c.: Larger lots were Pitched at the Durham Yards on Tuesday . Heavy ox hides were keenly competed tor, but for other descriptions bidding was slow. We quote: Stout ox, 4d to 4.id per lb ; medium, 2d to 3d : light ox and cow. Id to lid per lb; callskins, PAd to 4d ner lb : sheepskins, station, Is 9d to 3s 8d each /butchers, 3s P to sssd : lambskins 3s to 4s 4d each. Cattle have been brought forwaid in adequate numbers. The demand has been steady for stores and dairy stock, at the previous week’s values, but fat beasts receded sliehtly. 'he Newmarket Yards were fairly filled on Tuesday, and bidding was good throughout. There was no noteworthy alteration in the value of dairy cows or store stock, hut fat beasts were lower Is per 1001 b. Some average of fat steers were: £7, £6 14s 6d, £6 ss, £6 3s, £5 9s 9d. £5 2s 6d : cows. £4 ss, £3 15s, £o 10s, £2 15s, £2 12s 6d. Sheep were penned at Newmarket on Tuesday in less numbers than on the previous week, and prices advanced 2s per head ; wethers sold at from 11s 3d to 16s; crossbreds, 9s 6d to 14s : ewes, 9s 6d to 13s 3d ; mixed sexes, 11s 3d to 15s 6d. Pigs: Yarded in moderate numbers, and sold freely, at from 2d to 3d per lb, live weight. Messrs A. Buckland & Sons’ Weekly Report.— At the Haymarket during the past week prices have been somewhat better. Oaten sheaves, from 2s to3sthocwt; hay, 2s 6d to 3s 9d ; straw, 10s to 18s per load ; chaff, 2s 6d ; oats. Is lid to 2s Id. At the horse sale, on b nday there was not a large number of horses, but nearly all were sold : Hacks brought Irom £5 to £10; a draught filly brought £lßlos. At me hide and skin sale on Tuesday, a large number were pitched. The prices for cow hides ranged from lid to 2d; calfskins, 3.1 d to 4£d plight ox, lid to 2ld ; heavy ox, from 3d to 41d; butchers skins ranged from 3s to 5s 7d: station. 2s fid to 4s 6d; tallow, 17s 3d to 19s the cwt; fat, ltd per lb. At the country cattle sales, held at Pokeno on Monday, and Drury on Wednesday, there was a fair attendance of buyers, and nearly everything sold at satisfactory prices. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows near calving were required at late values : Prices ranged from £3 to £5. Fat steers, in usual supply, brought from 15s to 163 the 1001 b. Fat cows, in short supply, brought almost as much, oheep were also'in usual number. The ewes advertised brought 10s and 10s 6d ; and sheep were better worth about 2s each; wethers ranged up to 10s. Pigs: Abundant; well-bred pigs in brisk inquiry, and fat, coarse pigs fairly competed for, but coarse-bred store pigs were unsaleable.
Messrs G. W. Binney and Sons report that on Tuesday they offered an extra large number of hides and sheepskins. All well-conditioned hides sold freely, only a few lines being passed; heavy stout ox and cow are in demand, and meet ready sale at full values. Large, spready, thin are difficult to place, even at low values. We quote as market value : Heavy stout, 4d to 4ld (picked, 5d to sid); heavy, 3id to 3:(d ; steer. 2d to 3d; heavy low, 2d to 2)d; medium, lid to lid; light and medium, ljd to lid; kip, 2d to 3d; calf, 3.(d to 4d per lb. Sheepskins: \ allies declined all round, equal to 6d each, on account of the reports received from London of the fall in wool. We quote : Longwools, 4s 7d to 5s 3d ; crossbreds, 4s Id to 4s 7d; half-breds and merinos, 33 4dto3slOd each. Wool: Small lots from 4id to 6fd per lb. Tallow : Good, 17s 6d to 18s: medium, 15s to 16s per cwt; rough fat, l T d per lb. Bones, 4s 6d to 4s 9d ; shanks, 5s per cwt. Potatoes: Market still glutted: values from £3 to £3 7s 6d per ton. Butter; Better inquiry, and prices steady.
Messrs Arthur and Buddle's Weekly Report.— There have been seven sales by auction this week. Produce has not been in large supply, much more could have been disposed of in some lines. Potatoes: Stocks are light; no good samples on hand; many more wanted than to hand. Onions of first-class sample wanted. Fresh butter in fair supply. All sold freely at good prices. Salt Butter : Supply is just now beyond the demand. Inferior all but worthless. Cheese of good quality moves off freely. Eggs : Short suppiy; not at all equal to the demand. Good, well got up bacon is in demand: more could have been sold. Honey moves off but slowly. Poultry: A good supply of fowls and ducks; for the latter first-class prices were obtained. Only a few small turkeys. But few geese, these brought good prices. Pigs : A fair supply, all sold well. Furniture at private house sales brought good prices. Flax now to hand. Property has been asked after two have been sold one in Ponsonby, the other in Nel-son-street, near to Wellington-street. The following are the lowest and highest prices at which we have sold this week:-Fowls, Is to 2s; voungand inferior, 9d to Is 4d; turkeys, small. 2s 7d ; light Brahmas, 2s 3d to 2s 7d; guinea fowls, 4s; ducks, 2s to 2s 6d ; geese, 5s ; white Yorkshire pigs, 12s to 16s; black Berkshire, 7s to 11s 6d ; halfbreds. 4s to 6s fid; Hobart potatoes, 2s 6d to 3s 8d: new, Shepherds, }d to id per lb; kidneys, £d; kumeras, 2s 6d to 7s lOd; cauliflowers, 2s 8d to 3s 4d per dozen; inferior, Is 4d: sack cabbages, lid to 2s 4d ; Is to Is lOd per dozen ; pumpkins, Is 6d to 3s; carrots, Is 9d to 2s 8d and 4Jd to 9kl per dozen; parsnips, 8d to per dozen; turnips, 6d to Bid ; rhubarb, ss; onions, id to Jd : picklers, id to lid; oatmeal, £lO 12s ; flour, £9; maize, 3s 3d; oacs. 2s 3d; sharps, 4s ; bran, 3s 9d; cheese, l|d to 4id ; fresh butter, 6d to gfd ; salt, 6kl to 7d; fresh eggs, Is 6d; chaff, Is to 2s; sack and cut, 4s; honey, 3d; biscuits. 4d; Scotch mixtures, s|d; boiled lollies, 4(d; bacon. 3d to 7d ; shoulders, 4ja; hams, 4:]d to 8d; apples, lid to 21d; oranges. 5d per dozen; lemons, 4d to 8d; cocoanuts, 5s 6d. Mr Alexander Aitken’s Market Report.—Business fairly brisk. Supplies in some cases have not been up to demand, potatoes being particularly scarce; several ia-ge orders could not be supplied. Prime Waikatos have fetched £3 10s to £4; secondclass lots. £2 to £2 ss; Southern, £4 to £4 10s. Onions: Many poor lots coming to hand, and hard to move off at 4s to ss; prime lots are rather scarce, at id to Id; pickler3, none. Maize, none on hand. Wheat i Stocks light, fair demand at 3s to 3s 3d. Oats very plentiful, short feed, 2s to2s2d; others, Is 9d to Is lOd ; bran, 4s ; sharps, 4s 9d. Pumpkins, first-class lots, 2s 6d to 3s 3d ; others. Is to 2s; mangolds, Is 3d to Is fid. Carrots : Good quantity to hand. All quitted at 30s to 40s per ton. Piemelons, Is 3d to 2s; citrons, Is 3d to 3s; cabbages, 4d to 2s per sack, and 9d to Is 6d per dozen. Hams _ and bacon have come forward in large quantities. The demand has not been so brisk. Local prime. 6d to6id; medium, sdtosld; poor, 2d to 4d; hams, 4id to Bd. Lard: Good supply at 2jd to 3d. Honey: Several tons quitted. Section, very good, 3£d; barrier, in bulk. 2^d; common, 2d to 2Jd; 41b tins, 2id; damaged clover honey, lid to lfd. Butter: The supply of very prime corned has been short of shipping demand. Local demand, none. There is a very large quantity of medium and second-class lots on hand, for which there is little or no demand at 2id to 6d. There has been but little prime fresh butter entered; this made BJd to lOd. Upwards of one ton of inferior lots entered, which sold at from 2id to sd. Eggs : A good quantity to hand at Is 4d to Is 7Jd. Cheese: Prime mild, very scarce at 4d to 4id; inferior and old plentiful at lid to 2id. Apples; Entered in good quantities; Stone Pippins, 2Jd to 23d; Simmonds’ Winter and Stockley, 2id to 23d; other sorts, 2d to 2fd; poor and damaged. lfd. Cooking pears, lid to 2fd; lemons, very scarce at Bdland lid. Poultry entered in large numbers; there was an improved demand at better prices; first-class fowls. Is 6d to 2s ; medium lots. Is 3d to Is 4d; poor and small. Is to Is 2d; roosters, young,. in condition; Is 8d to 2s ; others, Is 3d to Is 7d; ducks. Is 5d to 2s 7d ; geese, scarce. 4s to 4s 3d: turkeys, plentiful, hens, 2s 3d to 3s 3d ; gobblers, good, 4s 3d to 6s; inferior, a few at Is 9d to 2s. Canaries. 2s 6d to 4s 3d. Pigs: Entered in large numbers; prices were not so good as last week ; best lots fetched 5s 3d to 12s 6d, according to size; inferior 2s 6d to 4s Dead rabbits : There is a large unsatisfied demand for much larger quantities at Is to Is 3d per pair.
