LATEST TELEGRAMS.

(By Electric Telegraph). (FROM OUR OWN CORUEBPONDBNT). LATEST FROM AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND BOARD OF EDUCATION. MIDWINTER HOLIDAYS. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Board of Education Chairman reperted midwinter holidays begin on Monday, 30th June. OPENING OF PARLIAMENT. WELLINGTON, Thursday. The fourth session of the tenth Parliament of New Zealand was opened yesterday by His Excellency the Governor. The attendance of the members ol the Legislative Council was unusually small, and only about forty members of the House of Representatives were present. The Premier looked vry ill, although he stood the whole time during the delivery of the speech. After reading the speech the Governor retired. Prior to the adjournment of the House being moved* Sir Geo. Grey moved as an amendment, That instead of adjourning, the House should resolve itself into Committee and present an address to the Governor, praying for parliament to be dissolved. The amendment, however, was ruled out of order. The Statement of the Postal Savings Bank was presented, and showed the amount of deposits to be £2,191,451, the largest sum yet recorded. The annual Educa-i-n report was likewise tabled, and states it is estimated 15,000 new pupils will have to be provided for annually. Mr Cadman, member for Coromandel, intends to ask the Minister of Lands if he will this session endeavour to amend the Selector’s Land Revaluation Act, so that the interpretation clause shall include the agricultural leaseholders of Ohmemuri County, thereby placing them on an equal footing with others in the occupation of Crown lands; . WELLINGTON, Yesterday. The House resumes this afternoon. The address in reply to the Governor’s speech was moved by Mr Tanner, Wai pawa, and seconded by Mr Ross, Roslyn. Mr Ballance moved the adjournment of debate till evening which was carried. Sir George Grey did not propose the amendment of which he gave notice yesterday. The general impression is that the amendment will be defeated. Members of the opposition party consider the action of Sir George Grey unwise in forestalling Mr Ballance’s intended no-confidence motion.
