CHARLES SANTLEY IN COURT.

An action for malicious prosecution is at present pending at Melbourne on the part of Edward Price against Mr Chas. Santley, the well-known singer. The ground of the action is that the defendant preferred two several criminal charges against the plaintiff, and had him arrested and imprisoned, the result of which was that Price was acquitted. The defendant alleges there was reasonable and probable cause for taking the action he did, and has paid the sum of £27 into Court in satisfaction of the plaintiffs claim. The defendant having refused an application by the plaintiff’s solicitors to supply them with bettet particulars of the reasonable and probable cause, a summons was taken out for that purpose, and came on for hearing before Mr Justice Hood, when Mr Isaacs represented the plaintiff and Mr Leon the defendant. Ilis Honor, after hearing arguments of opposing counsel, decided toallowbheapplication. Subsequently, reserved judgment was delivered by Mr Justice Hood, in Chambers. His Honor, after recounting the facts, decided either to grant the application as asked or to make an order for a further and better statement of the nature of the defendant’s defence.
