MINING NEWS.

Thames, May 19. Excelsior G.M.C.—This holding was formed into a company at a meeting of shareholders held yesterday afternoon. Mr D. G. Mac Donnell, who was appointed legal manager, explained that this property consisted of thirty acres adjoining the Norfolk and City of Dunedin mines. At the southern end of the mine is the Eureka reef, which is three feet wide, and may be driven upon at once, as it shows gold. This could be worked from the Tararu Road, and is only half a mile from the Norfolk battery. The quartz from this reef could be sent to the battery at little expense. The shares in the syndicate have all been taken up. The Chairman (Mr Speers) explained that the meeting was to form the syndicate into a company. At present only two men would be required to work upon the reef. The City of Dunedin mine had recently a trial crushing, which returned two ounces to the ton. The same reef was expected to run into tho Excelsior ground. The Wild Missouri tunnel ran for 200 feet along the boundary, and as this was about to bo cleaned out by the Norfolk Company they would be able to learn what reefs came from that direction. The Eureka reef was expected to junction with the California reef when driven upon. The Company starts with £175 to the good. Cambria. —lolb of picked stone were obtained to-day from the third stope on No. 7 leader. Trenton. —Eleven additional men were put on yesterday, making 30 now employed underground. Crushing will be started tomorrow.
