GREAT SCULLING MATCH. KEMP VICTORIOUS. SYDNEY, May 15. Thr sculling match between P. Kemp nnd J. McLean, for £2OO a-side nnd the championship of the world, was rnwe-1 tins afternoon on the Parramatta River. Both men gr : p,ped. the wafer together and Kemp, with’a stroke of 41. sHghjly led his ' opponent, who was puffing the same stroke. A great rac’ took {dace to Uhr’s Point, win re Kemp took the lending position,, and, crossing over to the Beacon, he increased his advantage to two lengths. McLean at this time was dipping deeply nnd pulling a j-rky stroke.. Kemp shotpast the mile post in 6m. 165., and the rac 1 at this time was one of the greatest ever rowed on the river. Crossing at Putney, the champion gained another length, nnd here McLean made a brilliant, spurt, but was unable to reduce the gap, ns Kpmp, with the greatest of ease, maintained his advantage, nnd won ns he liked by six lengths. Time, 21m.46f5. McLean rowed a most plucky race throughout. 1 Later. Kemp has challenged O’Connor to row for the championship.
