The following are the details of the running for the Maiden Hurdle Race at the last Rosehill (Sydney) races, won by the ex-Auckland owned mare Miss Alice : The Maiden Hurdle Race, a handicap of 100sov8. Second horse lOsovs from the prize. For all horses that have never won a hurdle race at time of starting. Two miles. Mr W. Kelso ns ch m Miss Alice, by Leolinus Pelroleuse, syrs, lOsb 91b (Nolan) 1 Mr J. Finn ns b m Essie, aged, 9st 71b (Laing) 2 Mr W. Foulsham ns br g Eurolgi, aged, 9st 111 b (Sheehan) 3 Other starters: Handover, lOst 111 b (Geoghan) ; The Miner, 9st 111 b (J. Fielder); The Fifer, 9st 91b (Cuneen) ; Charlie, 9st 91b (Rheece) ; Diomed, 9st 71b (Miles); Ito, 9st 51b (Williams); Quandong, 9st (Jones). Betting: 7t04 v. Handover, 6tol v. Essie, 7 to 1 v. Charlie, 8 to 1 each v, Eurolgi and Ito, 10 to 1 v. others. Eurolgi was first away, and then Charlie took the lead, followed by Ito, Quandong, The Fifer and Diomed. The Miner came to grief at the first jump and Diomed ran up first, but at the first jump in the straight came down. Passing the stand Eurolgi was leading Essie by a length, followed by Charlie and Ito. At the seven furlongs Eurolgi and Charlie were together, followed closely by Essie, whodownthe back stretch ran up first and led into the straight. Here Miss Alice came through and, catching the leader 20 lengths from home, won by a head on the post, with Eurolgi ten lengths away third, followed by Charlie, Ito, Handover and Quandong together. Time, 3min. 56sec.
