AUCKLAND WINTER MEETING.

The nominations for the Great Northern Steeplechase and Hurdle Race, received last night, are about up to previous years in point of number and quality, and in excess of last year. The “ foreigners ”in the list are Auckland (owned by Mr E. McElwain, of Wanganui) ; Kangaroo, who belongs to Wellington ; Waterfall, the well-known Napier horse ; and Jenny and Takapau, belonging to Taranaki; while the long-retired Silvio, the hero of the race in 1887, appears in the list. When we consider the great thinning out from the ranks of our jumping horses, the entries are more than satisfactory. The weights are due on May 26. The following is the list of entries : Great Northern Steeplechase of 300 sovs., about three miles and a half.—Auckland, Fishmonger, Takapau, Falcon, The Colonel, Magnesia, Silvio, Try Fluke, Hune, Jennie (late Rosebud), Parnell, Kangaroo, Tawhiao, Orlando, Waterfall, Orangeman, Donald. Handicap Hurdle Race of lOOsovs., two miles.—Auckland, Fishmonger, Takapau, The Colonel, Leofric, Guilderoy, Try Fluke, Jennie (late Rosebud), Parnell, Operatic, Orlando, Waterfall, Dick Turpin, Orangeman, Donald, Hailstone.
