Braadon, Agent-General for Tasmania, stated before the Colonising Committee that Tasmania is not opposed to emigrants, THE MAY DEMONSTRATION. Paris, April 29. Two Italians who have arrived in Paris, are advising soldiers to shoot their officers if ordered to charge the people, in the event of any disturbance in connection with the May demonstration. Shops are to be closed, and parades and meetings have been forbidden. Rome, April 29. A parade has been organised here in connection with the May demonstration. Madrid, April 29. It is expected 200,000 workmen will take part in the May demonstration in this city. VICTORIA LOAN BOOMS. London, April 29. Virtually the whole of the Victorian loan is paying under discount. IRISH LAND BILL. London, April 29. Dillon has resumed his speech on the Land Purchase debate.
ADELAIDE FAILURES. Adelaide, April 30. There is great excitement on the stock exchange because of the failure of two leading stockbrokers. One of them had oversold stock, and was unable to deliver.
LIBELS ON MR EDDY. Sydney, April 30. The Tamworth “News ” has divulged the name of the author of the railway libels against Mr Eddy, for which the paper recently apologised. The libeller is an ex-railway official. Mr Eddy intends prosecuting him criminally.
IRISH STRIKES. London, April 29. Irish firemen and drivers will remain out on strike unless the military are called out and intervene. The directors promise to consider their men’s grievances if they will apologise and return to work. Archbishop Walsh is acting as mediator.
DYNAMITERS ARRESTED. Paris, April 29. A number of persons concerned in a dynamite plot discovered on Thursday last have been arrested at Lyons.
