WAHAROA.
(From our own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of householders of the Matamata District was held in the Waharoa School house on Monday evening last, for the purpose of electing a new school committee. There was a large attendance. Mr Scelly was appointed chairman of the meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed ; also the annual report and balance-sheet.
The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £5 4s 6d, which was considered very sat isiactory. The following were nominated to serve on the new Committee, and as only the required number (7) were so nominated, they were declared duly elected : Messrs D. Scelly, J. R6ss,B. Brown, J. Latimer, A. Tindall, T. Hunter, and F. C. Thomas.
At the close of the public meeting the newly-elected Committee then held a meeting and elected Mr D. Seelly chairman, and Mr J. Ross, Seeretary and Treasurer; and Mr B. Brown, authorised to sigh cheques with the treasurer—all .three re-elected.
Mr Ross, in accepting the offico, said that he had intended to decline Unless he was paid, urging as his reason that he thought as all others in connection with the Education Board were so well paid for doing so little work, that the secretary of the School Committee should also be paid,, but upon second thought he would accept the position. The Chairman jokingly replied be quite agreed with Mr Rosa, in fact hwent further, he thought that the Chairs man should nlso receive a trifle for hionerous duties (laughter). The Come mittee met three times last year. He theh proposed a vote of thanks to the Secretary which was heartily responded to.
A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
