f From our own Correspondent.] At the annual meeting of householders on Monday evening last, on the motion of Mr O’Donoghue, seconded by Mr Collins, Mr Abbey was appointed Chairman of the meeting. On behalf of the outgoing Committee the following report was read : Repobt to the Hotjsbhoxjjebs o? the Waihou School Distbiot. The present number on the Roll is 35, and the average attendance for the year has been 24.3. The Inspector’s report wub very satisfactory ; and the thanks of the Committee are due to the teacher (Mr Maclean) for the way the school has been managed, no complaints having been made for the year. Several improvements have been carried out, notably, the painting and strengthening.of the Public Hall (used as school house), gravelling, etc. A very concert and dance Was held on September 17th ; the balance of funds being £4 4s 7d. £3 7s 3d of this was expended to pay half the cost of painting Hall, and the balance (17s 4d) was placed to the credit of the local library fund. With the assistance of numerous friends and neighbours a very enjoyable picnic was held on December 26th, when prizes were given for good conduct, attendance, eto., also a present of a book to each scholar. The funds collected daring the year amounted to .fill 19s sd, the disbursements being £9 19s sd, leaving a balance of £2 to ntart a school library. Thu Board of Education supplemented this with L2, and have advised the Committee that their (the Board’s) L2 will be paid to a bookseller on a certified list of books being handed to them. The Committee’s £2 have been forwarded Messrs Upton and Co, with a list of books ordered, which will probably arrive at an early date. There are also on hand six good books from 4 picnic funds which will be placed in the library. The cash and bank books have been audited and the receipts passed as correct. The cash in Bank is £2 12s 3d with all accounts paid to March 31st. With the increase of scholars the Government grant is now £6 per annum. After the report, which was considered very satisfactory, had been read and adopted, a vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing Committee. The election
of a new Committee was then proceeded with, and resulted in the undermentioned being elected : Collins, C. ; O’Dono hue, M. ; Shine, •T.; Ross, II.; Mikkelsen, N.; Abbey, At a meeting of the newly elected Cornmittee, Mr Collins was appointed Chairman and Mr Abbey, Secretary and Treasurer. On the motion of Mr Ross, seconded by Mr O’Donoghue, the Chairman and Secretary were to sign cheques. The meetings to be held the first Tuesday in each month as hitherto.
