The returns of gold obtained in the Ilauraki goldfields during the twelve months ended 51st March, 1890, show a decrease in the Thames, Coromandel and Ohinemuri districts as compared with the previous year, while there is a very marked increase in the Piako district. The following are the figures for the year ended Ist March, 1890: —Coromandel, 6,7000 z, £18,825 ; Thames, 33,8100 z, £88,760; Ohinemuri, 6,5800 z, £8,620; Piako, 4,5150 z, £11,742; total, 51,4050 z, value £127,947 ; to which add the value of ore exported from Te Aroha, £3,000: Total, £130,947. During last year in the Thames district there was a falling off in the quantity of gold won of 1,9860 z, of the value of £5,244 ; in Coromandel the decrease was 1,9900 z, valued at £4,294 ; and in Ohinemuri, though the quantity is put down at 6,3800 z as against 8,6790 z last year, the decrease in the value of £8,620 a 3 compared with the value last year of £13,057 2s Id shows that the return of 6,3800 z this year includes a large portion of bullion, and consequently not of :?ame value.
