Sydney, April 26. Mr O’Connor, Postmaster-General, has recommended the adoption of a penny letter rate throughout the colony.
Melbourne, April 26. Mr Ellis has submitted his views on rust. He defines it as a parasite fungus, constitutionally affecting the wheat plant. Upon arriving at maturity it bursts forth and escapes into the atmosphere in the form of a yellow smoke. The rust smoke fastens on clean wheat and produces a disease. He states that every precaution must be taken topreventthe fermentation of seed wheat, as it affords an opportunity of detaching the parasite. The principal preventative measures are to sow the wheat in sufficiently wet ground. Rust smoke perishes in water. Winnow the grain carefully, and avoid reaping before the grain is ripe.
Rio Janeiro, April 25. The ship Winifred, from Wellington to London, which put into Bahia last month for repairs, has effected repairs and has sailed again for London. Four hundred and sixteen bales of damaged wool which were comdemned will, in deference to a strong protest, be forwarded on to London at the first opportunity. The three hundred and ninety-three bales of flax condemned will be sold at Bahia.

London, April 27. At the coronial inquiry held into the cause of the fatalities caused by the Aorfa Colliery explosion in Wales, a verdict was returned “ That the accident was due to the firing of a shot, and that the man who fired the ehot was blameless.”
