SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
The annual meetings of householders for the election of School Committees in this and surrounding districts took place on Monday evening j and below wejmbJish the results, so far as they have 1 yet come to hanu : - t !, TE ARC HA, Great interest was evinced in the election at Te Aroha, and the attendance of householders was unusually large, bn the motion of Mr Ilolt, seconded by MrVHether.ingtpn, Rey p. /Qy Evans was appointed Chairman of the meeting. The Chairman of the outgoing Committee— Rev S. Lawry having left the district, the Secretary, Mr Menzie,read the anuual report, which was of a most j
satisfactory character. The following is a copy PvßroiiT of Tb Aroha Goldfields School COMMITTEE FOU THE ANNUAL MEETING of Householders, 28th April, 189 0. Tlie retiring Committee bog to submit to this meeting the following report upon matters connected with the school during the year novv ended. The following gentlemen wore elected at the annual meeting of householder?; held on 23rd April, 1889: Messrs J. Ilott, C. Ahier, A. Me.tizies, Rev S. La wry, Jas. Lavery, Jos. Heathcote, and Jos. Armit. At the first niut ting Rev 8. Lawry was elected Chairman, aud A. Menzies, Secretary and Treasurer. During the past year the Committee have held thirteen ordinary mi!.tin b s and two special meetings, for the transaction of school business.
During the year there was considerable expenditure on the school buildings and fences, damaged by the severe galos of last winter, the cost of which was mot by the Board of Education; the school and teaohers residence have also been painted at a oost of LI6 I7s 6d, one half of the cost having to be met by the Committee, which was raised through the kind assistance of the houd teacher and Miss Hould, who got up an entertainment by the .school children, and pluced the proceeds in the hands of tire Committee, which amounted to the sum of Ll3l3sßd. The number on the roll .at last meeting of Committee were 199, being the highest yet attained. Sjme changes were made after the Xmas holidays, in the teaching staff, Miss Mulgan having resigned, ami Miss Hould being ill with typhoid fever, the Board instructed Miss S. Ormistcn, and Miss S. Mill to attend the school from 3rd February lust, Miss Hould having recovered, ronumed her duties after the Easter vacation, aud Miss Mill returned to her former school in Auckland.
During the past year the school fund has been raised from L 29 to ; L 25 per annum. The school cleaning is being done by Mrs Erasmus; for the sum of LI 4 per unnmu, payable at the rate of Ll 3a 4d each calendar month "; this leave* a balance of Lll for the purchase of fueland effecting ropi r , etc. Everything in Connection with the school is at present in fair older. The retiring Committee hero express . their acknowledgment of the services of the head teacher, Mr VV. H. P. Marsdon, and his assistants, for the efficient manner in which the Work of the school has been cm lied out.
The accounts were duly audited up to 31st December last, and certified correct. All accounts have been paid up to date, urn! the amount remaining to credit in Bank is Ll2 19s 9d. On the motion of Mr C. A. Cornes a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing committee, and also the head teacher and assistants. The election of a new committee wa9 them proceeded rfith ; the following being nominated (1) W. Hetherington, nominated by Messrs Cornes and Hirst ; (2) Rov J*\ G. Evans, by Messrs Hirst and Uutt ; (8) Mr Ahier, by Messia Mills and C. Johnson ; (4) Mr Ilott, by Messrs Cornes and Harris ; (5) Mr Luvery, by Messrs Ilott and Gerritdi ; (6) Mr Heathcote, by Messrs Cornes and J. B. Johnson ; [ 7) Mr Menzie, by Messrs Mills and Ahier; (B)'Mr O’Toole, by Messrs Menzie and Mills. Messrs S. L. Hirst and J. A. Dobson were appointed scrutineers, and the ballot resulted as follows : ■' Name of Candidate No. of Votes. Ilott, J. ... ... 129 Ahier, C. ... ... B. ... 19 Lavery, J. ... 12 O’Toole, F. ... .11 The first seven were declared duly elected ; and the public meeting was brought to a close by votes of thanks being accorded the Chairman and scrutineers.
First Meeting of New’Committee : The first meeting of the newly-elected Committee was held immediately after the close of the public meeting; all memJers, with the exception of Mr Lavery (who was absent from the district j being present.
Mr Menzie moved that Rev F. G. Evans be appointed Chairman for the ensuing year ; seconded by Mr AhierMr Ilott moved as an amendment that the appointing of a chairman stand adjourned for one week in order that Mr Lavery might be present. In moving the amendment Mr Ilott said he thought this mark of eourtesy was due Mr Lavery seeing the active part be had for years taken in connection with all matters relating to the-school, and as there was no business awaiting transaction,nothing would be lost by adjourning as suggested. Mr Hetherington seconded the amendment, and in so doing said Mr Larery had done good service on the school committee for years past (both as a Committee man, and as Chairman of the; Committee); and he thought it would be very discourteous to deny him a voice iii the matter of election of chairman, and fixing day of monthly meeting, etc., seeing no one would be inconvenienced by the postponement.
Messrs Ahier and Menzie spoke against adjourning in order that Mr Lavery might attend; and only the mover and seconder voting in favour of the amendment it was declared lost, and Itev Mr.JJvans duly elected chairman. The first Monday in each month was fixed as the day of meeting, in the school, house at 8 p.iu. Mr Menzie was re-elected Secretary and Treasurer, and the Chairman and Secretary were appointed to sign all cheques on behalf of the Committee. , W-AIORON OrOMAI. Annual Report to the llcusEHOi,nEns of thx Waiobonoojiai School District-. Your Committee have the pleasure to report that the annual school examination by Inspector Goodwin, which took place in November last, was most satisfactory. 94 percent of the children having passed their Standards, which reflects great credit upon our teachers, Mr Gilließ and. Miss Nixon. \ v- ; \.v ■ . .... Tfie number of children on the school roll is 90 at the present time. During the corresponding month la-t year the roll number was 99. The average attendance is 62.6, against 69 last year. A set of chemical apparatus has been provided by' the Committee, for the teaching of Agricultural Chemistry, at the cost of L 4 7s sd, and is found of great benefit t ) the children.
The school house nnd outbuildings have been recently painted, und are now in an excellent state of repair. Some trees have also been planted in the school grounds.
The credit balance at the Ban n und in hand at the present time, amounts to L 6 14s lid.
The children’s school treat, held in December last was successfully carried out (thanks to the liberal, contributions from the parents und friend*), and was mu'di appreciated by the children. The concert held on the same day os the school treat, was not such a success financially as in former years, yet it resulted in a credit balance ot Ll 10s 6d.
Mr Gillies lias applied to the Board of Education fora removal, and Mr Ormiston from the Hikutaia school, bus been np pointed to succeed him. The following ware nominate! for election to oerve on the new Committee, and the number of votes polled by each Name of Candidate No. of Votes.

Pennington, Secretary ami Treasurer ; and the monthly meetings fixed for the first Saturday in each mouth, at 7.50 p.iu. The Chairman and Secretary were authorised to sign all cheques on behalf of the Committee.

At To Aroha YVes* the following Committee was elected : Messrs H. VV. Reynolds, J. Jackson, Kershaw, Bruon, J. Jamas, T. Stanley, nnd Berktnsbire. Mr Reynolds was appointed Chairman.
MO RUI NEVILLE.
. The annual election resulted in the election of Messrs Harrison, Turnbull; Rowe, Clifford, Pickitt, Marshall, and Horrell; Mr, Horrell being appointed Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer.
