* This above all—fco thine pwn self bo true, And it must follow as the night tbo day Thou cansfc not then be false to any man.’ SnAKESPKARK.
The annual meetings of householders for 'the election of new Scbpol Committees will take place on Monday next. The place and hour of n e ting with respect to the several schools in this district will he found adveitised in our columns today. We trust that in every district the occasion will receive that amount of attention its importance demands/ Surely it is a time when all should use. their vote and influence towards securing the election on committees of those best suited for the position, who, if elected, can be confidently relied upon to exercise the powers (oafered upon them with good judgment and impartiality. It is a matter for regret that householders frequently display such a very apathetic spirit with respect to these annual elections- New Zealanders have just caiise to-be proud of the very liberal educational advantages placed within the reach of every child in this favoured'land, hut the fact should not bo lost sight of, that whether the full benefit is derived therefrom. or not. will in a large measure depend upon the wise administration of the Education Act. It is most important that everything, possible should bfe done to advance the interests of the young and rising generation, and we consider, it is the duty of all -who ore entitled to vote at these annual flect ions to—as a 1 matter of duty, and whether they may have children attending school or not---attend and record their votes in favour of those they consider best suited to represent them on the School Committees. The tendency of the age is to throw more and more responsibility with respect to all matters of local government. upon thosemostdirectly concerned, and the duties, responsibilities, and powers of school committees are certain to be yet largely increased. We trust therefore that local residents will by their attendance and votes at the school committee elections on Monday evening, show that they really do take an interest in all such matters. ft is stated Mr W, A, Murray, of Pinko, will probably contest the Te Aroha seat at the next election. *'" / '. The total sum realised for the Hon. J. White’a 13 racehorses was L 17,498 6s, being an average of LI 343 each. It is now asserted the new elections will take place next September, when the present Parliament will empire byaffiuxion of time.
