Caledonian. —This mine shows an improvement, and promises to shortly again come to the front. Mr Coutbs a few days ago commenced driving on Rowe’s leader at No. 1 level, and when breaking it down some good colours of gold were seen. This is somewhat important, as this leader is at present 12 inches thick, and runs right through the mine. Cambria. —At No. 4 level, No. 7 leader in the drive is opening out and looking much better. The work of cleaning out and retimbeiing No. 2 level is progressing satisfactorily. The third stope on No. 7 leader is along 43 feet. At No. 3 level the leader is from six to seven inches thick, shows gold freely and a few pounds of picked stone are saved occasionally. A vein of quartz 8 inches wide has been encountered in one of the stopes on the main reef. The stone shows dabs of gold, and this lengthens the run of golden ground 12 or 14 feet. Tributers have obtained 61 ounces of gold from a ingSaxon. —The north crosscut is going through kindly country, bub no leaders have been intersected. The reef in the winze has been cut off to a flat head and has nob been picked up again by sinking. A crosscut has therefore been commenced so as to prove if the reef exists at a greater depth before opening up No. 5 level. All the stopes above No. 4 and No. 5 levels are supplying plenty of payable quartz. The crosscut from the Prince Imperial shaft is still in hard country. Lone Hand. —Crushing was commenced last night. Crawford’s Company (Sydney).—Crushing of 103 loads of quartz has produced 138 oz of gold.

Thames, April 11 Crawford’s Special G.M. Company. —The total yield of gold obtained from the crush’ ing of 102 loads of quartz was 1530 z 13dwt. This will leave a very fair margin of profit, and should be gratifying to the Sydney shareholders, as it is the best return that has yet been obtained from this mine.

Lone Hand.— Excellent progress continues bo be made with the extension of the low level tunnel, and the break should now soon be to hand. A crosscut along its course will then be driven to intersect the Manchester reef. Payable quartz is being broken out as usual from the upper level workings. Crushing is proceeding at Bull’s battery. Mr W. S. Wilson has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors.

This crosscut was put in with a view to picking up No. 1 reef. During the last day or two the general crushing has shown an improvement. Arrangements have been made with the Cassell Company to treat one ton of picked stone, and tho like quantity of general ore, on tho following terms: —For ore valued from £IOO to £3OO per ton, 75 per cent, of the assay is guaranteed ; for ore valued from £3OO to £SOO per ton, 80 per cent. ; from £SOO and upwards, 85 per cent.
