An English paper, the “ Hastings News,” says: "Mr T. B. Brett, stationer, has re ceived copies of an excellent handy guide book for New Zealand, by Ernest Bilbrough, brought out and printed by Mr T.B. Brett’snephew, Mrßrett, of the ‘Auckland Star,' the most popular paper in the land of the Maoris. The information given is accurate and interesting, and the book will be found invaluable to intending tourists and emigrants and to others who have friends in the far-off isle of the Southern Seas. It is issued at 3s 6d.” ‘ Pat, you must be an early riser. I always find you at work the first thing in the morning.’ ‘ Indade, an’ am, sor. It’s a family thraic, Oi do be thinkin’.’ ‘Then vour father is an early riser, too, eh?’ ‘Me feyther, is it? Faix, an’ he roises that early that ef he’d go to bed a little later he’d mate himself gettin’ up in the mornin’.’
Mrs Jawkins (ironically)—‘Good morning, Bridget; you see lam up ahead of you and have the fire made 1’ Bridget— ‘ Sure, mum, it do be a great pity that yez can t bo as careful av yurself as Oi am !’ It must be something of a handicap to a singer to have a soft voice, as naturally she would find it difficult to sing hard music.
