Auckland, April 5. Mr Alex. Aiticen’s Market Report.— Potatoes ot prime quality short of requirements at £3 5s to £3lss; Waikato lots sell on arrival at £3 10s; indifferent lots, £2 to £3; onions in < excess of demand at fjd to :Jd; bran and sharps, £4 to £5; wheat in good demand at 3s (none on hand); oats. Is lOd to 2s 4d; maize, none; carrots. 2s Od; cow potatoes, 30s; mangolds, 30s. Bacon and ham (only Southern): Seconds, fad; first quality, Bd. Butter: Fair supply of fresh at JOdtolOAd; keg butter, extra prime quality, in demand at 7d; other kinds, 3d to 4d; old, lid to 2d. Eggs: Increased quantities to hand: prices ruled from Is 3d to Is 6d, and the tendency is downwards. Large quantities of Island fruits have come forward; bananas and oranges only realised a trifle over cost of freight. Bananas, Is 2d to Is 9d per bunch; oranges, glutted, and slow of sale ‘at 3s to 4s per case of 10 dozen. The supply of local fruit has been large; but little alteration in values all round. First-class cooking apples, :)d to lid ; others, id to ga; dessert, ordinary, Id to lid ; very choice, lid to 2d; pears. Bcurre Bois, 21d to 3Jd; Beurro Biel, li'd to 2FI; cooking kinds, lid to 2d; inferior lots, id to Id; peaches, 6d to Is 3d per dozen, and 2Jd to 4d per lb; grapes, none; passion fruit, l:,‘d to 21rl; tigs, |d to 2d per dozen ; lemons, 5d to 9|d per dozen, according to size; quinces, 3d to id; medlars, 3d. The poultry department was largely supplied with all sorts, and prices all round were lower. Fowls realised Is to Is 8d; ducks, Is 6d to Is lOd; geese. 2s to 3s; turkeys, 2s 4d to 5s 6d; roosters, young in condition, Is 7d to 2s ; small and old fowls, 8d to Is each. Pigs, 5s to Bs.
Messrs A. Buckland & Sons’ Weekly Report.—Prices for fodder at the Haymarket have during the past week been better than for some time. Loose fodder has ranged from 2s 9d to 3s 6d the cwt; maize in wholesale parcels on the wharf, 3s 4d the bushel; oats, 2s to 2s 2d; grass seeds of all descriptions are selling freely. At the horse sale on Friday, March 28th, a larger than usual supply met with a brisk demand. Good working hoi ses ranged from £ll to £2O; spring carts, £lO to £ls ; sets of harness! £2 to £5; unbroken draught colts and fillies, from £6lss to £9 respectively. On Tuesday hides and skins were in usual supply, and wi’thout alteration in price. Choice heavy ox hides brought 3. ; id to 4}d; light ox and cow hides, from ljd to 2:;d the lb ; tallow, 17s 6d to 18s 9d the cwt; pelts, 8d and upwards to 4s 6d each; lambskins. Is 3d to 2s 9d each ; wool, 6-Jd to 7.;d the lb. At the Pukelcohe cattle sale stock were in full number : dairy cows at profit sold well; other stock at late values. At Romuera on Thursday useful dairy cattle. at their profit were in good demand ; prices ranged up to £6 each. Dry cows were the only store cattle yarded; those were at low values, from 12s to 25s each. Fat calves plentiful; choice bred young calves kept their values, but many of those offered were coarse, and those were lower in price. Fat cattle numerous; 350 head, mostly steers of good quality, sold, and of these eight only were bought by the grazier. Prices for steers were steady at 15s. Good cows. 13s the 1001 b. No s'ore sheep offered; fat sheep, in short supply, advanced in price from Is to 2s each; wethers brought from 13s to 17s; ewes, 7s to 12s fid each; lambs in their wool, 9s to 12s 6d; shorn, fas to 8s each. Pigs numerous, wellbred porkers kept their values, but a draft of fairly good coarse pigs were low in price.
AUCKLAND PRODUCE MARKET.
Farm and Dairy Produce. Wholesale : Butter, prime fresh, lOd: second quality, 7d; third do, sd; cheese, good factory, 4jd to 4Jd; oggs, Is fad; lard in bladders,sJd; bacon and hams, 6d to 8d; Canterbury bacon, etc., in cloth sides, 8d; equal numbers, Bjd : hams, 9;d. Flour Market.— Wholesale: Local rollers, first quality (sacks), £9 ss; second, £8 15s; Southern rollers, £9 ss; stone Hour, £Blss to £9 : bran, £3 ss; Southern bran, £4 to £4 ss; local sfiarps, £3 15s; Southern do., £4 5s to £4 10s: cabin bread, £l7 ; oatmeal, 25’s, £lO 10s; Southern oats, 2s to 2s 3d; local wheat, Tuscan, 2s 9d to 3s: Southern wheat, 8s 3d to 3s 6d: pearl barley, £l9 per ton ; maize, 3s fad: local potatoes, £3los ; beans, 3s 3d; onions, 3d per lb. Wheat (sacks extra), oats, chaff, oatmeal, sold sacks inclubed. Kauri Gum. The gum market is firm, with all good qualities in good demand. The current rate for ordinary gum is about £3B. with good to superior at £4O and £4l per ton. East Coast is in good demand, and is firm at £56 to £SB. The supplies for the month of March are about 650 tons. M anures. Boncdust, Sydney. £7 to £B, according to quality: bonofiour, £8 to £3 10s; Auckland, £8 ; Long Island do.. £4los, bags in eluded: superphosphate, first quality, £7 10s to £8: second quality, £6 to £6 10s. Coat, and Firewood Market.— Coal: Newcastle, at yard, 32s per ton; Bay of Islands, at mines. 13s ; at yards, 24s ; steam, 24s ; house, do livered, 30s : Waikato, at mines, Bs. 12s; town, 18s to 225; Taupiri, at mine, Bs, 12s: at Auckland. steam, 17s 6d; household, delivered.24s to 255; Whangarei, at mine, 9s 6d : yard, steam, 17s 6d ; household, 23s ; delivered, 25s ; Miranda, at mines, 7* to 10s ;at Auckland, 17s to 20s. Firewood: Uncut, at wharf, cargo, 6s 6d toßs 6d per ton ; delivered, 10s to 12s: cut, 14s to 16s Building Materials.—Brices are as follow at present:—Timber: Boards and scantling, lOOtt nest, 12s; second-class, 7s; best planed tongued and grooved, first-class, 14s; medium, 12s; second-class, 9s; rusticated weather boards, first-class, 14s; medium, 12s; secondclass. 10s. New Zealand palings, sft (sap), 9s; (heart), 11s 6d: ti-t.ree rails. £3 10s per 100; puriri posts. £5; shingles, 13s per 1,000 : Hobart palings. sft, 17s; 6ft, 19s; Hobart rails. 80s, selling quotations.
