MINING NEWS.

Thames, March 25. New Moanataiari. The lode in the stope above the drive on the cross reef, No. 3 level, Cambria section, looks better than it did in the level. Bright mineral shows in the stone. At the Point Russell level only two men have been employed on the Golden Age reef. Unless the prospects improve here, tho manager intends to resume driving on the reef at Point Russell level. Kindly-looking quartz is coming to hand from the Reuben Parr reef, bub so far no gold has been seen. No breaking down has taken place in the winze since last Tuesday. The country in the face looks all right, and the manager is in hopes that the gold will continue ahead. If so, there is a probability of a separate run of gold here. During the week the main tunnel has been extended twenty-four feet. A hard boulder of rock was met with on the right hand of the tunnel, but it does not appear to be making as if it would cross the face. The manager believes that be is not above 50 feet from the reef here. The surface dirt pub through the battery has not been shaping quite so well as last month, Saxon. —Work has been commenced by the contractor to drive the crosscut from the Prince Imperial shaft with the object of opening up No. 6 level. Alburnia. —The crushing of the general dirt takes place to-morrow. Crawford’s Lease;— Last Saturday 271 b of picked stone were obtained from tho reef in the northern drive, Anna level, and 31b of very rich stone from the second stope above the drive.

Freedom. —Splendid progress has been made with the crosscut pub in to intersect the Twenty-third of June reef.

New Alburnia.— l visited this mine today, but on the whole the prospects are nob so good as formerly. About 151 bof picked stone have been saved during the past week. Crushing of general quartz will be commenced to-morrow.
