MINING NEWS.

Thames, March 20. Consols (Hape Creek). The tributers, Grabble and party, crushed 11 loads of quartz for the excellent return of 330 z 3dwb of melted gold.

New Manukau.— A little gold is showing in the footwall. Men are now back on Mulligan’s leader, bringing along the fourth stope. This looks fairly well, but shows very little gold. It will be some time before the stope is forward to the new leader.

Trenton. — The crushing of 75 loads of quurtz and 81b of picked stone was finished yesterday, for the return of 420 z gold. The lode still continues strong going eastward in new country, gold being frequently seen.

Cambria. —At No. 4 level the two leaders are still divided by about tour feet of sandstone. At No. 3 level the third stope is turning out good crushing dirt, and a few pounds of picked stone are occasionally saved. The leader in the second stope, western drive, is about 5 inches thick and shows gold freely. Gold was seen in the leader at the intermediate level when breaking down on Monday. Picked stone was also obtained. Crushing has commenced.

Australian G.M. Co. (Sydney).—The battery at Waitekauri, belonging to this Company, was sold by auction yesterday under warrant of distress for £265. Mr A. Butler was the purchaser. Lone Hand. —Work has been commenced to shoot away the side of the drive to make room before starting to sink on the winze on the Adelaide reef below the Moa level. Colours of gold are seen in various leaders in other parts oi the mine. May Queen. — During the week the drive east on No. 4 level has been put in 30 feet, making a total distance of 235 feet. The lode is 2 inches thick, and from this picked stone has been obtained. There is a splendid class of sandstone country in the footwall side of the lode.

Saxon. —The drive on the new reef off No. 7 stope is in 30ft, and the reef has shown gold the whole distance, picked stone being at times obtained. Norfolk (Tararu). —There was ademand for shares in this mine to-day. A fortnight ago shares might have been obtained for twopence or threepence. Then came a telegram that a reef had been met with which showed gold. Shares advanced to lOd, and yesterday to Is sd. This morning the demand increased, and during the day parcels changed hands at 2s 6d. .Tiiy Fluke.— The legal manager, Mr H. Gil Allan, received a telegram this morning stating that 160ozs of gold had been retor; ed from 15 tons. Tailings still to come.
