MINING NEWS.
KARAN G AH AKE. fFrom our own Crown, — Siuce my last visit to this Company’s mine a change of management has taken place; Mr G. N. McGruer being now in charge of the mine, and Mr W. Kdtchieson of the Battery. Although the staff is not now so numerous, still a great deal of Work is being carried on in opening up the mine, and the output of ore is considerable. At the Battery Mr Htitchieson has the Lamberton mills in full swing crushing dry, which is found to be more suitable than the wet process tried under the late management with disastrous results to the grinding gear. The balls were ground into all manner of shapes ; and the lower disc of one of the mills had to be replaced by a new one. A good sized parcel has been put through since Mr Hutchieson took charge, and is now being treated by the percolating process at the Cassel Gold Ext-acting Company’s works. A ton of ore from Fnaotunu was being treated by the Cassel Company at the time of tny visit, but I have not yet learned the result. Imperial : Mr Clements has made a start to sink on No. 1 reef. A small portion was broken down while I was there showing good gold in a small vein on the hanging wall, and fair prospects through the remainder of the reef. Adeline Amalgamated ; This Company’s ground was visited by the Warden and Mining Inspector on 24tli ult. It seems that the Warden is not satisfied with the small number of men employed on so large an area, and insists upon a greater number being employed or part of the ground given up. Kenilworth (Moore’s Tribute): —This tribute party are working a block of ground on (what is known as) Shepherd's leader. A winze is being sunk from Shepherd’s level, and is down about 40 feet, carrying rich gold as far as they have gone. A paddock of between 20 and 30 tons of good ore. is stacked at the mouth of tlie tunnel, > which I hear is worth £3O or £4O per ton Ivanhoc : In this mine work is going on as usual, and the Battery is running one shift on the Company’s quartz. Tribute (White and party); This party cleaned up at the Company’s Battery last week for 22ozs worth 48s Gd per ounce, the result of 30 tons crushed. Ivanhoe Baltery : I learn that tenders have been called for the removal of this Battery to Puriri, it having been purchased by Mr Hogg on behalf of an Auckland syndicate, who reckon they have got on to a good thing down there ; the price paid is £250.
