Waihou Creamery,

(From our own Correspondent.) Waihou, Monday. About fifteen settlers were present at the meeting held in Waihou Public Hall on last Saturday evening, of those interested in the establishment of a ‘ creamery ’at Waihou. Mr Jackson in the chair. The present position and general prospects of the project were fully discussed. With respect to a site, those present did not consider the offer made by the Crown Lands Commissioner (in response to the request to grant a site) of an occupation license at 4s an acre per annum satisfactory ; and on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Thaxter, it was resolved that an offer of 10s per acre for the freehold ©f the site be made. It was unanimously considered advisable by those present that all arrangements be completed with as little delay as possible, so that operations might be commenced at an early date.

It was stated that Mr Reynolds, judging by his correspondence, appeared well satisfied with the guarantee of the settlers with respect to milk supply, and on his part was ready to commence operations as soon as possible. It is satisfaclory testimony ns to the satisfaction ‘creameries’ have given elsewhere, that those now residing in this district, who have been interested in other creameries, are doing their very best to assist in preparing for the supply of cows guaranteed ; and the number already promised lias now reached about 280. It is sincerely to be hoped that those who have worked up the affair so far will sjare no iffoits to now bring it to a successful issue. The benefit to the settlors would be very great;

and they know by dear experience that, one pound in ready cash for their milk or produce is almost worth double the amount when received by ineaus of ‘trucking.’
