Royal Oak (Coromandel). — l The reef in thefwinze has been large and broken, owing to a large fissure coining in the whole length of the winze. It is now making more solid going down. In No. 3 level the reef in the rise still continues to carry gold going up, aird the ground is looking more favourable. In lengthening the riso another of these cross leads was met with, showing a little gold. The reef on the west side of the range is small where opened to drive on. This reef has shown nothing in the stone except loose prospects. About two hundred feet further ahead 80oz. of gold was got, supposed to have come from this same reef. —Peter Reid, Mine Manager. May Queen.-- The manager wires : “ No. 4 lode improving ; solid quartz coming in.” Nemesis Claim (Kuaotunu). —Mr H. Rowe, mine manager, writes from Kuaotunu, under date February 28bh :—“ During the past week I have discovered three reefs, all of which give good payable prospects. The smallest is over one foot thick, which carries gold fully worth two ounces per ton, and I should not be in the least surprised if it made specimens when worked on. The second reef is much larger, bub I cannot say at present what is its size. I have uncovered about six feet square with no signs of wall. This reef prospects well; besides gold there is a great quantity of manganese, some of which I send for assay. I have not yet determined the third reef’s size, bub it is very large ; very similar in appearance to the Try Fluke stone.”
