MINING CONFERENCE.

RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED. Dunedin, Alarch 1. The Alining Conference has adopted the following resolutions :—“(1) That it should be more imperative upon the wardens to grant occupation licenses to bona fide applicants. (2) That whereas at present clause 61 of the Counties Act, 1866, is in many cases prohibitive to miners (who may be large contributors to the county revenue) exercising their vote at county elections through nob residing in the riding in which their miner's rights were taken out or through shifting their place of abode, it is desirable that the clause be so altered as to permit a miner to vote in any riding within the county in which his miner’s right is granted upon the declaration that he is a bona fide miner and has nob voted at the same election previously. (3) That with the view of preventing undue looking up of lands by uuworked dredging or other claims it is desirable that the Government should take steps bo increase the stringency or otherwise render more operative the forfeiture clauses of the Mining Act, and that for that purpose the onus of seeing the law' carried out in this respect should rest with the Inspector of AJincs or his deputy.”
