Thames, Feb. 21. Ota.ma (Kuaotunu).—The yield of 161 oz melted gold, which has already been telegraphed, was obtained from 28 tons of quartz crushed from the Otama claim at Kuaotunu, and has given general satisfaction, being even better than was anticipated by the most sanguine. The gold was worth £2 8s 6d. Warden’s Court. —At the Warden's Court yesterday the following licensed holdings were forfeited Mata Goldmining Company, Mariposa Extended at Waitekauri, and Sunbeam at Te Mata. Several other plaints for forfeiture were adjourned, amongst them being the following Mariposa, Walhalla, New Eureka, Silverton Goldmining Company and Adeline Amalgamated. Cambria.— Quartz of a highly remunerative kind continues to come to hand from this mine. Another parcel of 101 b picked stone was obtained yesterday from the second stope over the western drive, and 51b from the small leader in the hanging wall of the main reef in the sixth east. New Albuknia.—No further breaking down of the reef in drive will take place for a few days, as the men are now engaged timbering it. Saxon.— The manager last night resumed the sinking of the winze on No. 1 reef, east of No. 1 break at No. 5 level. He will thus ascertain definitely to what depth the water has fallen since the work here was suspended. New Moanataiari, —Under date of 19th insfc. the manager writes : —“ The Reuben Parr reef in the western drive from the bottom of the winze below the Point Russell level still shows gold freely; when broken down to-day a few pounds of really good stone were secured. There is a break crossing the lode, which has thrown it fully three feet into the footwall. it is on the western side of this break that the gold has been got, while that obtained in the sinking of the winze was on the eastern side.”
Royal Oak. —The manager, writing on the 19th,reports: There is but little change to repo’rt from the mine. In the winze a large portion of the lodo has been broken down, but no gold has been met with, as the lode is considerably broken on the run. There are strong mineral indications in the fissures of the lode going down, and an appearance of a change for the better, as the reef is making more solid on the footwall side of the run. In No. 3 level the reef was broken down last evening. It has greatly improved in width, and in also making stronger blotches of gold going up on the cross lead.— Peter Reid.
Thames, this day. New Moanataiaki.— Tho cross reef in the drive at No. 3 level, Cambria, is improving, and is showing a few strong colours of gold. There is a good bib of mineralised stone in the hangingwall side of the lode which ought to make gold. There is no change to report from the Golden Age l’eef workings. The contractors are still making but poor headway in the drive along the Reuben Parr reef. The reef in the western drive from the bottom of the winze continues to show gold every breaking down, and during last week about 81b of picked stone were selected. Trenton, —The lode in the eastern drive is showing colours of gold. It will be broken down to-day.
