EXPORT OF LIME.
SHIPMENTS TO AUSTRALIA. It is encouraging to find that the various natural productions of the colony are gradually coming more into favour out of New Zealand as well as in the country, and that continually demands are arising in Australia and further afield for whatever we are able to export in the shape of vegetable or mineral products. The latest inquiry on the “other side,” in New South Wales and elsewhere, is for Auckland burnt lime, samples of which appear to have been received with great favour in Australia. As a result of this demand, two good-sized vessels have just been fixed from Auckland to proceed to coastal lime-exporting localities and load cargoes for Sydney. One is the Sydney brigantine Prosperity, which sails in a few days for Whangarei, where she will load a cargo of 'ime at Limestone Inland for Port Jackson. The other is the William Turner, • a 400 - ton barque belonging to Sydney, which was cleared for Mahurangi. At that locality she takes in a full load of Wilson’s Mahurangi lime for New South Wales. It is to be hoped that these initial shipments will have the effect of inaugurating and establishing a steady trade in Auckland lime with the Australian colonies.
