CRICKET MATCH.

Te Akoha v. Paeroa, ' s stated in our issue of Wednesday last the Paeroa Cricket Club recently sent a challenge to the Te Aroha Club, which was accepted. The match came off on Saturday last at Paeroa in a paddock kindly lent for the occasion by Messrs Cassel and Bennett. The Te Aroha team arrived on the ground a few minutes after eleven o’clock, and play commenced shortly afterwards. Paeroa won the toss, and sent the Te Aroha team to the wickets. The ground was on the whole suitable, with a fairly good pitch. The Te Aroha team were disposed of for 23 runs in the first innings, Paeroa scoring 36. In the second innings Te Aroha displayed much improved form, running up a total of 67, and winning the match by 25 runs. The following is a record of the scores : Te Aroha Ist. Innings. W. In the first innings the Te Aroha team evidently found it difficult to play to the bowling of Messrs Hampden and Kelly, no less than five wickets going down for seven runs. Willis was smartly caught at long on by McGregor. The Paeroa team in their first innings although scoring better than Te Aroha, were unable to accomplish much against the howling of Messrs Meldrum and Biggs In the second innings Te Aroha, having by this time become somewhat acquainted with the style of the bowlers, made amends for their previous poor score, and rapidly put together the very fair score of 65 ; leaving 52 to be made by Paeroa tu win. The principal score was made by Mr Meldrum, who retiied with 22 to his credit. Paeroa in the second innings likewise showed improved form, but the fielding aiid bowling of Te Aroha proved very good, anil they \vere unable to make the required score, ail being out for 27 runs. An exceedingly smart catch at

point by Williswas deservedly applauded. The match concluded about five o’clock, jtjfe Te Aroha team immediately making a s*art for home, being anxious to get through the Botokuhu Gorge by daylight ; and for this reason declining the kind invitation of Paeroa to remain to a ■ social ’ got jip f,or the occasion. A substantial luncheon was provided on the field by the Paeroa team ; and a very enjoyable day spent, everything passing off without a hitch.
