SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1890.
To-day at noon the nomination of candidates for the annual Licensing Committee election, for the Te Arolin licensing district, will be received. Should more than five candidates be nominated, the poll will take place on Friday next. It is a matter for regret that very often but little interest is evinced by local residents generally with respect to these elections. The Government has practically placed the control of licensing matteis in the hands of the people, and it is their bounJen duty to avail themselves of the great privilege bestoweJ upon them in this very important matter. In fact it behoves 41JI who have the prosperity and well being of the township and district at heart, to make use of the means thus placed at their disposal to ensure that the control of the liquor traffic therein is entrusted to those who fully recognise the importance of such a trust, and who will administer the law of the land with respect thereto intelligent!}', and impartially. It is sincerely to be desired that all will unite for the election of men of prudence and judgment, who will act with discretion in the exercise of their important duties.
