MINING NEWS.
Thames, February 18. Alining matters continue somewhat quiet. Operations are proceeding much the same as usual in the various mines, but in none of them has anything of importanceoccurred during the lost few days. Trenton, —The safety cage for this Company’s shaft has been completed by Alessrs Price Bros., and will be utilised inthecourse of a few days. The mine manager wired to-day“ Five pounds picked stone, eastern drive, footwall lode.” Lone Hand. —The General Chute drive at the low level is now within 15 or 20ft of the Company’s boundary. Norfolk.— The reef carries gold for the last six feet, the drive having been sunk 14fb for the week. It has been weared into the hangingwall, and has been cut partly through. The mine manager intends to start rising on the reef to ascertain whether it will improve upwards. New Prince Imperial. —The lead in the winze is about 18 inches thick and looks very well. Some good colours of gold have been seen in it. Brownlee, Gough, and party, tributers, have ten loads of quartz on hand, and Brown and party have about nine loads. New Alanukau. —The new leader is looking very well. Fifteen pounds of fair picked stone were got in the second stope last week. This is from 7to 8 feet below where gold was first met with in the drive above No. 4 level. The small leader in the footwall also continues to show a little gold. Saxon. —The fortnightly cleaning up took place to-day, for an excellent return of 4200 z gold from 454 loads quartz and 551 b picked stone. Crawford G.AI. Co.—-A crushing of 61 loads quartz produced 320 z 12dwt gold. A FINE YIELD. To-day the manager of the Saxon mine wired “Banked 4200 z retorted gold from 454 loads general quartz and 551 b picked stone.”
Thames, Feb. 19. New Albujinia. —Operations in this mine are being attended with an encouraging amount of success, under the management of Mr Radford. When breaking down the reef yesterday afternoon, another parcel of 101 b of picked stone was selected from the general dirt. Lone Hand. —An excellent description of sandstone is being penetrated in the low level drive, and during the past week tho contractors have extended it a further distance of 20ft. It now appears that this drive is still some 25 or ,30ft off the boundary. Colours of gold are: seen when breaking down the Aloa reef in this drive, while quartz of the usual remunerative grade continues to come to hand from the Alanchester reef and the leaders in the upper level. Alay Queen. —Tenders are being invited for 100 ft of driving.
