BANK STUCK UP.
About a quarter to 10 o’clock on Tuesday, of last week, the Bank of New South Wales at Wellington, an up-country township in New South Wales, was the scene of much excitement, caused through the extraordinary ‘‘action of a rough-looking man, wearing a straw hat, entering the bank and demanding change of a £5 note. The manager, Mr Bayley, was out at the time, bub Mr Shute, the accountant, opened the cash-drawer to get the change, when he discovered that the note was only for £l. At this moment the man went round the end of the counter and presented a loaded revolver at the accountant, saying, *f f} a il up or I will blow your brains out.” The revolver was at this time close to Mr Chute’s face, who threw the man’s arm holding the i*evolver up and grappled with him. Then Mr Shute hastily snatched his revolver fropa the drawer, and went round to the manager's room. Mr Heathershaw, manager of the ]London and Chartered Bank, was just popaing in at this moment. When the robher saw Shute at the door, and in a position of advantage, he fled, and mounted a horse which be had waiting outside. The alarm was immediately given and the desperado was chased by Senior-ser-geant Chiplin and Mr Breeze. After going half-a-mile tho man got ofl his horse and pred two shots in the air. He then turned I his weapon and deliberately shot himself in jthf‘ 'mouth, jdyfng immediately.
