PUHIPUHI SILVER FIELD.
MR HISLOP’S VISIT.
Our. Whangerei correspondent writes:— The Hon. Mr Hislop visited Whangarei last week, and was met in the evening by a deputation of the presidents, who urged upon him the necessity of opening up the Puhipuhi forest for silver mining without delay. And they also brought other local matters under his notice, one of these being the state of the Great North Road and the inability of the counties to find funds for the purpose of putting it in repair; the unsatisfactory arrangement of distribu ting local revenues, such as hotel licenses, making it the property of the Town Board instead of County or Charitable Aid Board revenues. Mr Hislop heard the deputationwith great patience and attention, promisingtobriug the subject beforehis colleagues’' notice. The deputation thanked him and withdrew.
_ Tests of stone taken from thß Puhipuhi silver fields continue favourable. Latest assay return from Dunedin is 400 oz silver to the .ton from average stone taken by Mr Robert Thompson, M.H.R., from the Prospectors’ Claim. “ Auckland Star,” February 11.
