RETURN OF EXPORTS AND IMPORTS. Wellington, February 11. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce a return was presented showing the exports from various ports for the years 1885 to 1889. It showed an increase of over two and a-half millions for the year 1889 over that of 1885. Tho return of imports for the same period shows a falling-off of £1,182,000 for 1889, as compared with 1885. A comparison of the exports of the last two years was most marked, the figures in 1889 being £9,339,245, against £7,767,325 for 1888, an increaseforlßß9of£l,s7l,94o. Thedifference in the export of New Zealand produce is even more satisfactory, 1889 showing £9,042,008, as against £7,255,128 for 1888, a difl'erence in favour of last year of £1,786,880. The return of imports for the years 1888 and 1889 shows an increase tor the latter period of £355,197, whilst a comparison of the imports and exports for these two yearß gives the large sum of £3,042,168 in favour of the colony. Exports of flax during the last two years have been as followslßßß, 4,042 tons, valued at £76,281; 1889, 17,084 tons, valued at £361,182. The shipments from Wellington amounted to 9,582 tons, or rather more than half of the total quantity.
