(By Electric Telegraph). (FROM OCR QVVN CORRESPONDENT). LATEST FROM AUCKLAND. FOUND DEAD. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Mary Ann Breton was found dead in her yard to-day. ACCIDENT AT BIRKENHEAD. Clement Witheford sustained a fracture of the skull by an accident at Birken - head. THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. It is officially stated that no calls will be made to the legislative Council this recess. RAINFALL AT WHANGAREI. The rain at Whangarei has saturated Pnhipuhi Lush preventing damage from fire. ALLEGED AUCKLAND SLANDER CASE. The alleged slander case, Humphries v. Rae, was proceeding at the Supreme Court all to-day, and has not yet concluded. DEATH OF A CRACK TWO-YEAR-OLD. Morrins ? crack two-year—old, Mary, died to-day of stoppage of bowels. PROSPECTING DEEP LEVELS AT THAMES, Thames, Last Night. At a meeting of the Drainage Board to-day, a series of resolutions were proposed by Mr Brodie, and were adopted, affirming the desirability of testing the deep levels of the Thames, by means of diamond drill ; and Mr Lennox was authorised to convene in Auckland at an early date, a meeting of all those interested in mining, in order to take some definite steps for the development of the low levels.
