N.S.W. V. CANTERBURY. Christchurch, February 8. Davis took Cottam’s place, 4 wickets being down for 93. Halley soon bowled him for 7 runs and Callaway came in. He made things lively for a time, but Halley put an end to his career when he had made 15. 128 —6—15. Moss bowled Clarke, who followed, and Newell came in and Cowper was immediately run out. Josephs followed, the and score rose to 151, when he gave Labatt a catch and retired. Shepherd was last man and after the score was raised to 166 he was run out; Newell, 15 not out.

Christchurch, February 8. The New South Wales Cricket Match was resumed this morning. The weather was cloudy, and there was a cold wind blowing. De Maus and Halley raised the score to 202 before the former was bowled by McClinchy. He added 18 to yesterday’s score, making his total 74. Ogier joined Halley and the score mounted to 207, when a Yorker from McClinchy disposed of Halley, who had contributed 16. Moss, Canterbury’s last man, joined Ogier, who, after making a dozen, was caught at long-on by Cowper off McClinchy, the innings closing for 218, Moss not out. New South Wales’ second innings began at 12.30, Cottarn and Cowper facing the bowling of Moss and Halley. Runs came freely, and Wilding and Harman took the bowling. The change was not productive of much good, and Ashby replaced Wilding. His slows were not much use. At lunch the New South Wales score was 48 ; Cottarn 16, Cowper 28, both nob out; extras 4. Christchurch, Feb. 10. On Saturday afternoon we left this match with Canterbury all out for 218, and Cottarn and Cowper at the wickets for New South Wales’ second innings with the score at 48 for no wickets. Immediately after lunch Cottarn gave Wilding the balloff Ashby. 49—1—10. McClinchy came in, and changes in the bowling had little effect, 60, 70, 80 and 90 coming up, till at 96 Labatt caught Cowper in the slips off Harman, after a fine free innings. 96—2—54. Youill came in, and the score still mounted, but at 112 McClinchy hit Wilding out to his wicket after having made 30. Davis followed, and the score rose quickly till he was bowled by Wilding. 1444 —20. Robinson gob in in time to see Youill bowled by Harman. 147 —5 —2l. Callaway came in, bub at If 5 went out for 7. Newell took the vacancy and was clean bowled by Harman. Shepherd made 13 and went with the score at 189. Clarke followed and a fine stand was made, both _ men scoring fast and playing good cricket.
