[Front our own Correspondent.] Many signs of progress are visible in tin's locality. More land is being prepared for cultivation, and the cheese and butter factory is kept busy by the supply of milk from about 3 50 cows in the distr ct The settlement scheme instituted by Mr J. C, Firth is being extended on still easier terms by the present proprietors of the Mntamnta estate, and promises to be still more satisfactory in the future. The meetings of the recently constituted Band of Hope are held in the schoolroom, and the Society is gradually gaining in numbers. The monthly meeting was held on Saturday evening last when there was a good attendance and much interest manifested. The Chairman, Rev T. A. Norrie, having opened the meeting, gave a short address on temperance, From first to last the young folks showed their great willingness to assist in making the meeting a thorough success, which it proved to be. The whole proceedings were much enlivened by several violin solos and accompaniments by Mr Bryant, including two pieces from Hoyle’s selections. Recitations were given in a clear and pleasant style by the following : “Wanted,” Miss Lulu Browne; “First Steps,” Miss Ellen Alaloney; “ True Victory,” Miss Bessie Browne ; “Do Good,” Aliss Hannah Alaloney; “ The Little Soldier,” AJiss Emily Browne ; “ Do your best,” Miss Dolly Finnerty ; “Good Night,” Aliss Chrissy Robinson. The following songs were also given at intervals and elicited much applause Angry Words,” Alisses Emily, Lulu, and Bessie Browne ; “ Brooklet on the Plain,” Alisses 11. and E. Alaloney and Aliss Lulu Browne. At the close of the meeting nine new members signed the pledge ; a most satisfactory ending to a very enthusiastic meeting.
