The annual report and balance-sheet (as follows) for the year ending December 31st, 1889, were read and adopted : Committee’s Report. “ The Committee of management of the Te Aroha District Library in laying before iiie subscribers the seventh annual repoit and balanc-e-slieet for the past year, regret that they have 1 e -n 1 qable to pay off the old liabilities ; nl'hongh it was tl.plight that in removing the Library into a more central position it would induce a much larger number of persons to - become subscribers which would have enabled them to pay off the old debts. The revenue from subscriptions during the past year was £39 2s, us against £25 17s 61, the previous year being an increase of £l3 4s 6d ; but this amount lias been whooly expended in paying rent and commission on collecting subscriptions, etc. With a view of making the institution more popular we would recommend the incomingCommiltee to take into consideration the advisabilhy of supplying the Library with two or three monthly magazines. There is also a great need for a fresh supply of books—only one pound having been spent during the year oa new ones. The Reading Room has been fairly used, and well supplied with New Zealand papers. The thanks of the subscribers are due to Mr Jas, Craig for valuab’e donations of books. Accord ing Jo the by-laws the present office bearers and Committee retire, and it will be the duty of subscribers to elect their successors.” Balance Sheet.
