Our trade returns to date are a very satisfactory indication of a great advance in our. export trade, the increase in the last three months alone being very "slightly under £400,000. The total value of the imports at the several ports of; the colony for the quarter ending December 31, 1889, amounted to £1,670,610, and for the corresponding quarter of 1888, t0_£1,495,957, showing an increase of £176,653. - The total value of the 'exports for the quarter ending December! ! 31, 1889, • amounted to £2,409,606; and for the corresponding quarter of 1888, to £2,055,328, showing an increase of £354,278. The total value of exports during ,:1889 was £9,339,265, as compared with £7,767,325 in 1888. Auckland’s exports : increased from £933,958 to £1,042,087 ; Wellington’s from £1,209,389 t0.,£1,38.6,922 ; and Dunedin’s from £1,043,208 to £1,210,397.
