THE INSPECTOR OF MEN AT TE AROHA.
As reported in our lr.st issue, Mr H. A. Gordon, Inspector-of Mines, arrived at To -Aroha b-, irain from Auckland on Tuesday last ; Mr G. Wiicon, district Mining Inspector, arriving from T .nines same dry to meet Mr Gordon. On Wednesday Mr Gordon, accompanied by Mr Wilson, went out to Wriorongomai at 9 a.m., they were met by Mr Win. Adams, jun.. Acting Manager for the To A.o’ia S; ar i G. Mining Company ; and under his guidance were shown over the Company's reduction works, mine l :, etc. Me Gordon spent a considerable time in inspecting the magnificent plant erected by the Company (this being the first time he has visited Waiorongomai since its erection) ; ard appeared greatly pleased with th; r ery complete manner in \vh : oh ever .’nng pertaining thereto had been finisher'. Mr Gordon also spent some time in exawning iiie plans, eic., in connection wh.*’. the projected low level tunnel, before proceed - ing to the mines. After lunch a move was made for up the hill. The first stopping place was, at the Army Cieek gully, the intended start ing point of the proposed low level tunnel; Hr Gordon having to furnish a repo t to Government with respect to the proposed mode of operations, estimated cost, and prospect*, from a financial point of view- \ The Silver King reef was visaed, and! the other adjacent known reefs locates',etc., etc. j Having completed his business in conneclion with the Te Aroha S. and Gj Mining Comoanv, Mr Gordon next nro-i needed to the Ferguson Syndics ft mines, under the guidance; of Mr P. Ferguson.; The new workings in the Premier mine, (where good gold was a eho i tune smee di-cove; ed on he eastern face of the main reef a considerable distance north of any of the old workings) were first visited. As alreadj r reported in these columns, a drive is now being put in to connect with the winze, and some realty excellent stone has been, and is now being broken out therefrom ; and Mr Gordon »*:;/> cised himself as being highly pleased witii the very p omising appearance of the reef, and s. ow of gold in the stone. There can he no doubt of tho value of this discove y. To-day Mr Gordon purposes letuinlng to Karangnhaku to inspect the Ciown mine, Cassel Gold Extracting Com r-. ay’s works, etc., etc. Fioin Krrangaliuke Mr Gordon will .'proceed; to Thames (visiting Maroloto en route), where lie spends several days, and from thence proceed to Coromandel. Mr G. Wilson, being subpoened as a witness at the Appeal Court, Auckland on Monday next, in the appeal case brought by Hie Caledonian G. Mining Co., parted cotoipany with Mr Gordon at Te Aroha, and returned to Thames yesterday morning; but lias arranged to meet Mr Gordon !at Coromandel, and they will together visit the new goldfield at Ivuaotunu, and other districts-. 7: ’'7 577 ; 77 !
