The first practice of tiie newly constituted Te Aroha C.icset Club was held on Wednesday last in Mr A. W. Edward’s paddock, pear PostCffice. A practice wiil also take place on the same ground this afternoon at two o’clock. Tiie Club are indebted to Mr Edwards for very kindly allowing the cricketers the use of his paddock. We are informed -that 'Air Lipsey also promised to rentier .any assistance in his power ; not .only offering the use of his paddock in front of the house to practice on, but volunteering to have some drains filhd iu and siine fences removea if found to in. erf ere wiili the comfort ot the players. On every side the new Club appears *o have taken well, and will, vve have no doubt, soon le üble to place a good team in (he field. Members must not however forget taut plenty of practice is an essential to good form.
A,recent issue of the Gisborne Standard says:—“Tlie ‘Demos' affair whioli has ■ been creating so much interest in Opotiki has apparently not finished yet, and the Rev T. J. I A mistake happened in regard to tliis * race ; the horses being started from the six furlongs post, Blarney finishing first.
