THE “STATIST” ON THE VICTORIAN LOAN.

London, January 25. The “Statist” considers that thecir cumstances of the impending Victorian loan are so damaging to the Victorian Treasury that investors will be justified in requiring a guarantee against the recurrence of the unpardonable recklessness of the Government. The paper attacks Mr Gillies, the Treasury officials, Mr DeakiD, and the Railway Commissioners, and denounces what it characterises as the bogus surplus.. The system of bonuses also comes in for condemnation, and the article declares that the audit of agency accounts is insufficient.
