MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.
LOST FROM THE ENTERPRISE. Cai-tain Taylor, of the steamer Enterprise, running between Auckland and the Thames, lias informed the water police that a miner named James Kerr, who took passage on the steamer for this port at >he Thames on Saturday afternoon la-t, mysteriously disappeared on the passage up during the night. It is supposed he fell overboard and was di owned. Kerr was lately disi barged from the Crown g Id mine, Karangahake. Be took passage up to Auckland with a mate, John Cullen. who missed Kerr when the steamer reached the Queen - street Wharf at midnight on Saturday. He concluded he had gone ashore, but next morniug he did not find Ken at the British Hotel, the appointed meeting place. Captain Taylor, of theEnteri rise, did not see Kerrgoashore from the boat. He last saw Imn about 11 p.m. on Satur lav between the Sandspir and Auckland, h ing on Heck near the skylight, asleep with h s hat alongside him. The hat was found at Jaylight on Sunday lying on the deck. So far, the police have found no trace of the missing man. it is feared that lie fell over from the steamer coming up the gulf and was drowned, He was slightly intoxicated when he came on board the steamer. Kerr was a single man, about 30 years of age, a native of Scotland. He w«s of slender build, middle height, sandy moustache, and wore a brown tweed suit.
