MINING NEWS.

WAIORONGOMAI. Te Arona S. and G. Mining Co. : Ae reported in our last issue the water j icket smelting furnace was ‘Mown in’ on Tuesday night last. Smelting com menced on Wednesday, but owing to a leak taking place in the furnace, smelting had to be discontinued at 8 a.m. on Thursday, the furnace cleaned out, and the defect repaired. The necessary repairs was speedily effected, and smelting was re.-umel shortly before 1 a.m. yesterday morning, from which time up to 6 o’clock last evening 100 bars of bullion were run off, value L6O per ton. The bars weigh about 90'b each, or say 4 tons to each lOObais, The furnace is running splendidly, and never did better wok, and the present‘run’ will probably be finished to-morrow night. Ferguson Syndicate : Work is progressing steadily in connection with this claim; all the hands being at present engaged in opening up the Premier po:tion of the property. The new workings' referred to are situated a considerable distance north of the old workings, and the reefs now being opened up are all in virgin ground. The prospects obtained so far ar° considered very satisfactory, good payable gone having been discovered at the several points where cross-cuts have been driven and winzes sunk. The contractors (McLeod and party), engaged on a branch of the main reef, expect to hole through t>> the winze recently sunk by Grice and party, in the course of a couple of days.

K A RAN G AIIAK E. On Wednesday last a meeting" of shareholders of the Woodstock atid Kenilworth G . M. Oo.’b was held at Mr D.G. MncDon nell’s office, Auckland, for the pm pose of effecting the proposed amalgamation. Mr Melville presided, and it was resolved : (1) “ That the Company he formed under the Mining Companies Act, 1882, and that the same be registered in the name of the Woodstock United Gold nnd Silver Mining Company, Limited, with a nominal capital of £27,5C0, in 55,000 shares of 10s each, 4s per share to he considered as paid up.” (2) “ That 52,568 shares in the Company he allotted as f0110w5:—28,750 shares to the Woodstock shareho’ders in exchange for their property, and 23,818 shares to the Kenilworth shareholders in exchange for their property ; the remaining 2432 shares to be held in reserve, to be hereafter disposed of by the directors for the benefit of the Compan}’, as they may deem mos' proper.” The following’ gentlemen w ere appointed directors of the Company:— Messrs W. S. Wilson, J. L. Wilson, W. Gorrie, T. Gorrie, T. Melville, and R. Spratt. Mr D. G. Mac Donnell was appointed legal manager, and was instrncted to take the necessary steps for the registration of the Company.

The total amount of gold obtained during the past year was 43,8190zs lOdwts, the yields for the above districts for the year being ir-Tlmmcs Borough, 19,8650zs 13dwts 15grs ; Thames County, 15,1400zs 15dwts 12grs ; Coromandel County, 55G7ozs lOdvvts ; Ohinemuri County, 22680zs Bdwts ; and Piako County, 9850zs 2dwts. The yield for the four quarters was as follows : —March, 98540zs Sdwts ; June, 9711 ozs 12dwts ; September, 10,5320zs 4dwtß ; and December, 13,7210zs 6dwts. [To the above Official Returns would have to be added the value of bn lion obtained at the Te Aruba S. and G.
