A meeting of property owners, to protest against Hie Property Tax,- held in the Insurance Buildings to-day was well attended ; and a resolution was adopted condemning the Tax. A committee, consisting of Messrs Hall, Rees, Laisliley, Reid, and C. Williamson was appointed to arrange for a larger meeting. THE PUIIIPUHI SILVER FIND. VERY ENCOURAGING REPORTS. INSPECTOR GORDON TO VISIT PUIIIPUHI AND REPORT. Considerable interest and no little excitement was occasioned “on Change ” to-day by the promising reports from the Puliipuhi silver mines, and by tlie exhibition of a number of specimens showing native silver very freely th.oughout the stone. Mr H. A. Gordon.lnspector of Mines, leaves to-morrow for Auckland, and will visit the locality where the silver was alleged to be found, and report to Government on the advisability of granting mineral leases in Puhinuhi Forest. DEPARTURE OF MR TLIOS. MORRIN FOR QUEENSLAND. Mr Thomas Morrin leaves for Sydney in the Te Anau next Tuesday, from which city he proceeds to Queensland ; taking over with him Hereford cattle for disposal.

The exports of the Colony for the venr ended 31st December, 1880, were Lo,l 31.373, an increase of Ll ,364.0 18 on previous year; the impoits for same period were L 6.297.097, being: an increase of L 355,197 on previous year. SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. The Alameda, with the mails left San Francisco at 6 a.m., Wednesday, 15th inst,, four days late according to time table. The postal authorities have received no information as to the cause of delay, but think no doubt it was occasioned by the accident to the train at Nebraska. CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES. Christchurch, January 17. At the wool sales to-day about 6,500 bales were submitted. Prices were as follows : Merino clothing, 8d ;o 9£d ; combing, to 9£d; half-bred, 9 I to lid; fine half-bred, 1 quality. Several large clips were withdrawn for shipment.
