BURNT MAILS.

SUPPOSED TO BE THE INWARD MAILS. The news of the destruction of the Austra* lian mails on the American overland route, which appears in our cable column to-day. evidently refers to the inward mails. They could not well refer to the last outward mails, for these are not timed to reach San Francisco till the 18th instant. The inward mails, were, however, to have left San Francisco last Friday, and this date corresponds very well with the time of their destruction. It is usual to send these mails in several separate shipments, and it is considered probable that it was only the latest consignment that was destroyed.
