MINING PROSPECTS.

A PROMISING OUTLOOK. The new year opens well so far as mining prospects are concerned in connection with both Thames and Coromandel ventures as concerned, not to speak of the great hopes entertained in respect of the new Koatunu goldfields and Puhipuhi silver field. The sharemarkeb has been closed during the Christmas and New Year Holidays, but during this period of speculative inactivity some excellent news has been received from several of our best mines, and shares have had a corresponding impetus on the upward scale. Business resumed to-day, and there has been a very great improvement in Cambrias, and shares have increased iu value from 2s, at which they were quoted before the holidays, to 3s 3d and 3s 4d, at which figures business was transacted to day. Moanatairis, which were worth 4s 6d prior to the vacation have since struck some gold and have also had a big jump upwards, to-days quotations for business transacted being 5s 6d and 6s, the market closing with buyers at 5s 9d and no sellers. Albumins also have a promising appearance, there being buyers this morning at Is 9d, In Prince Imperials to-day, business was done at 2s 7d ; and Trentons changed hands at 3s Bd, while May Queens sold at Is Bd, but subsequently were a little easier, and were obtained for Is 6d. The Coromandel mines have also being looking up, the Royal Oak having paid a good dividend, while the large amount of English capital now being invested and about to be invested in the field gives promise of good returns during the present year. Good news has also been heard for Koatunu, and there are no shares in the market. On the whole tho mining outlook is much more encouraging than at> the close of the old year.
