SYLVIA PARK SALE.

Auckland, January 3. The sale at Sylvia Park yesterday was a thorough success from first to last. Throughout, the bidding was spirited and genuine. The competition for the possession of the Nordenfeldt—Nelly Moore colt was very fierce, Mr Stead opened fire with a bid of 400 guineas, and with Mr Gollan’s assistance it quickly rose to 760 guineas, at which figure Mr J. Kean stepped in. Mr W. R. Wilson bid 825 guineas, and in rapid succession 1,025 was reached, the colt falling to Mr Wilson at that price amidst great applause. Mr D. O'Brien and Mr Wilson had a hard setto for the Nordenfeldt—Mersey filly, and there was a lot of bidding between Messrs Gollan and Stead for the Nordenfeldt— Pearl Ash filly, which was eventually knocked down to the Canterbury sportsman. The total realised for the 43 yearlings was 6,158 guineas, being an average of 143 guineas each. The average was reduced owing to a number of youngsters being offered out of indiffox-ent mares that had lately passed into the possession of the Company, but which were mostly got rid of yesterday. The thirteen of Nordenfeldt’s progeny brought the splendid sum of 4,415 guineas, being the splendid average of guineas each. Appended are full particulars of the lots sold and the buyers Yearlings.
