The following letter has been received by Mr R. C. Barstow, Chairman of the Auckland Unionist Committee, from Mr Jos. Chamberlain, M.P. for Birmingham, formerly one of the English Radical leaders, but now a leader of the Unionist party : “ Highbury, Moor Green, Birmingham. November 12th, 1889. Dear Sir :—1 have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 7th ult., together with the enclosed paper showing the view taken in New Zealand of the Irish question. I have never doubted that the loyalty and patriotism of the colonies would be on the side of those who are endeavouring to maintain intact the great Empire which \ve have inherited from our forefathers, and I am glad to know that the doctrines of anarchy, which have received some support iri this country, find no approval amongst the intelligent population of your city.—Believe me, yours faithfully, J. i Chamberlain.”
