THE-PUHIPUHI DISCOVERY. MR G. WILSON'S REPORT. Nine Reefs Worthless - The Tenth Worth £2 Per Ton.
The Mines Department have received the following tclp^rarn from the lrsptt tor of Mines at Thames who was sent to Puhipulii to report on the silver find :—: — " I have visile.! the place where the Jiscovery of gold and silver hns been made in the prospectors' ground, and brought back assays ftom different reefs. The assays have been completed by Mr Rhodes Nine of the reefs, though nearly all carrying traces of gold and a little silver, are practically worthless. The tenth reef, nnnied by the prospectors the ' silver reef,' may warrant further prospecting. It averages ldwt 17grs of gold and 2ozs 13 lwts of silver to the ton, making a total value of L 2 sterling per ton. I have no authentic information of any other dis« covery in this district about vrhich reports have appeared in newspapers."— -Star.
