LIFE INSURANCE ACTION. JUDGMENT RESERVED. Wellington, December 17.

Argument on the nonsuit points in the case of Bertie v. the Equitable Life Association Insurance Society of U.S.A., occupied a couple of hours this morning, and the Magistrate reserved his judgment. The case for the defendant was the following : — That tho plaintiff took out not an "endowment" policy, but a "limited payment " policy, to establish which they relied upon tho letters "Ltd. P." contained in brackets upon the proposal made by the plaintiff. The plaintiff, in cross-examination by defendant's counsel (Mr Skerrett), denied that ho had seen these marks on the proposal or policy, an he placed the policy in the bank when the insurance was effected. A suggestion made by the defence was that the competition among canvassing agents led them to make exaggerated representations as to results, bub the defendant company could not be held lesponsible for this, The learned counsel said the letters upon the proposal, " Limited payment " were sufficient to identify the true nature of the contract. Under a " limited payment " contract the defendants had done every thine: required of them by the plaintiffs proposal.
