Tun difficulty with tho Portuguese as regards the Zambesi has taken a more seriojs turn, atirl Vioe-Admhal J. J. Dandrada Pinto, the commander of tho I'ortuwuose navy, has attacked tho MaUololos holding a territory tra\ersed by the Zarabe s i River. Tho G.-itling guns of the attacking paity killed hundreds of the natives, and two British 11 igs, previously given by Johnston, were captured. The Makololos, foaring that England had abandoned its rights to tho territory, submitted to Portuguese dominion. Admiral Pinto is prcnar* ing to conquer tho country to Nyanza. Tho '-Pall Mall Gazette" inlets that Poitugal should be made to respect the Johnston treaties. Admiral Pinto exhorts the British residents in the Zambesi to accept the protection of Portugal.
