HENRY E. SEARLE, THE CHAMPION SCULLER DEAD.
Melbourne, December 10. Henry E. Searle, the champion sculler of the world, who has been suffering from typhoid fever, died to-day. He was first taken ill after leaving Suez, but improved before reaching Colombo, where the champion took part in a footrace and also in a cricket match. Shortly after re-embarking he rapidly developed typhoid fever, and was removed to the ship's hospital. He arrived at Albany on 17th November in the steamer Austral, and came on here by her, when he was removed to a sanatorium at Williamstown.
Sydney, December 10. The death of Searle has caused a profound sensation throughout Australia. He will be buried at his home on the Clarence River.
